Code of Behaviour

Brisbane Commercial College believes that unacceptable student behaviour can have a negative impact on others. Students need to behave in a manner appropriate to a business environment.

The following behaviour will not be tolerated:

  • Not observing class rules set by the lecturers/trainers;
  • Smoking in the building. (You may only leave the building to smoke during scheduled breaks.)
  • Swearing, abusing or disrespecting other students or staff
  • Endangering the lives of others
  • Breaching relevant State and Federal Laws e.g. Workplace Health and Safety
  • Selling, using, distributing, under the influence and/or being in possession of drugs whilst attending classes/work experience
  • Selling, consuming, distributing and/or being under the influence of alcohol whilst attending classes/work experience;
  • Wilful damage to or theft of Brisbane Commercial College property, or property entrusted to the College’s care;
  • Accessing, storing, processing or transmitting any information deemed to be threatening, obscene, pornographic or harassing in nature;
  • Unauthorised use of Brisbane Commercial College intellectual property including College name, logo, training manuals/materials, trademarks, designs, confidential information and copyright material.
  • Behave in a manner that interferes with the learning of others;

Breaches of Code of Conduct:

Where behaviour is unacceptable, disciplinary action may be taken. This action may include, but is not limited to:

  • Excluding and or refusing entry to a classroom if the behaviour is disruptive or dangerous
  • Suspension of studies by the Manager
  • Expulsion from the College by the Manager
  • In cases of criminal behaviour, notification to the police

Disciplinary Procedures

In the case of misconduct by a student in the classroom, a lecturer/trainer may suspend the student immediately from the remainder of the class/learning activity. The lecturer/trainer issuing the suspension will advise the Manager immediately and complete an incident report.

The Manager will discuss the reason for suspension with the student and will give the student reasonable opportunity to be heard in respect to the misconduct. At this point the Manager will:

  • modify or dismiss the charge;
  • reprimand and warn the student against repeating the behaviour
  • recommend that further action be taken.

Disciplinary Appeal Process

If the student wishes to appeal the decision made they must complete a Student Complaints and Appeals Form within 7 days of the decision being made. The appeal will be dealt with in accordance with the Colleges Complaints Policy and Procedure.
